Overview

Our kindergarten has three features that set it apart from and above any other preschool in the area. Our program is Montessori based with an added Primary Phonics Curriculum and includes and Integrated Bilingual Education Program.

There is just the right balance of learning and play. Through play and having fun, the children are practicing important social skills, stimulating brain development, increasing gross and fine motor coordination and improving eye-hand coordination.

In a safe, nurturing environment, children are introduced to a lifetime of learning. Each child is recognized as an individual and works at his or his or her own pace based on the child’s abilities and experiences. Experienced, dedicated teachers guide the children to think for themselves and to be responsible for their actions. Emphasized continually is respect for others. Parents, teachers, and staff work together to ensure that preschool is a positive experience for each child.

Full-Time preschool is 8:30 to 2:30 Mondays- Thursdays and 8:30 to 11:30 on Fridays. There are several options available for part-time enrollment.

Admissions

Bonita Country Day School is a non-profit, nonsectarian educational corporation, which does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin. Bonita Country Day’s admission process gives parents time to explore the school’s philosophy and programs, and allows the school’s staff to get to know the prospective family and student.

A requirement for enrollment is that the children be fully potty trained and able to take care of their bathroom needs by themselves. Age requirement for enrollment is 2 1/2 years old by September 1st. Age exceptions can be considered on a case by case basis and are at the Director’s discretion. There is a non-refundable application fee of $75.00 due when the application is submitted.

Admission Process

  • Observe the class in action- Please call the school office to schedule a time for you to observe a class. Ideally observations are scheduled during the morning session.
  • Complete the Application for admission and return it with the $75.00 application fee to the school office.
  • Schedule an appointment for you child’s assessment. At the assessment, your child will meet with the director, Mrs. Catanzaro. The purpose of this assessment is to determine if your child will be a good “fit” in our Montessori Preschool.
  • When the assessment is complete, you will be notified of the determination.

Curriculum

The Montessori Curriculum

Allows children to learn by doing and making discoveries with Montessori materials and activities, thereby cultivating concentration, strengthening self-discipline and embracing a love of learning. The primary purpose of the Montessori Method is to develop children intellectually and socially to be the independent thinkers and self-directed learners. The Montessori materials are divided into three main groups: Practical Life, which are the beginning activities; Sensorial, which addresses all five senses; and Academic, which await each child’s moments of interest in reading, arithmetic, science, and geography.

Primary Phonics

Successfully stands the test of time, for one reason; it works. Each student can work at his own pace with ample opportunities for reinforcement. Our preschoolers develop a systematic series of decoding skills which lead to early reading.

Bilingual Education

Has our students learning in two languages, English and Spanish, throughout the day. Learning a second language has been shown to enhance children’s cognitive development. Thirty minutes of each full day are spent with a dedicated Spanish teacher in the language classroom.

Spanish Instruction in Language Classroom: 30 Minutes- varies by classrooms, during individual Job times.

Extended Care

Extended care is provided before and after regular school hours for parents who are working or traveling to and from work during those hours. Extended care before school begins at 7:00 am until class begins and after school from the end of class until 6:00 pm. Students are supervised, on campus, by a qualified care professional. Outdoor activities off an opportunity for physical exercise and indoor activities are teacher directed and playful. You will need to provide a snack for your child in extended care after regular school hours. On Fridays, children will have a rest time after snack and before play.

Before school, an adult must sign the child into extended care and notify the child care supervisor the he or she has done so. After school, an adult must make contact with the child care supervisor and sign the child out of extended care. All children will automatically be signed into extended care if not collected within the ten minute grace period after dismissal, and parents will be charged accordingly. Extended care fee is $5.00 per hour.

<h3><strong>Enrichment Programs</strong></h3>
A variety of enrichment programs are offered, on campus, after school. Each program is presented by a qualified private contractor, who sets fees and class schedules and to whom payments are made.
